Visual Arts
Art I/Ethnic Studies
This class is an introduction to the elements of art and will include art techniques, analysis, history and theory. Each project relates to something technical, cultural, historical or personal and connects to ethnic studies standards. This class specifically looks at art through the lens of ‘identity’, how an artist’s identity impacts their artwork and how our own identity influences our artwork. An emphasis on finding each student's unique style and giving them an outlet to be creative is the most important part of this class.
ART II
This class is meant to build on what was learned in ART I. Students have more freedom with how they meet the requirements and execute each project and are expected to be self motivated and self directed
ART III
The purpose of this class is for students to create a portfolio that they can take with them into college or a future arts career. It is aligned with AP Art and students do not have to, but can choose to submit an AP portfolio.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course explores photography as an art form: composition elements, how to analyze, talk about and showcase photography and specific artists who have had a historical and cultural impact. Students learn basic digital camera functions including how to upload and edit photos.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY II/YEARBOOK
This class expands on the fundamentals learned in Photo I. Throughout the year students will be adding to their ‘Photography Portfolio’ as well as designing, and accumulating photos/interviews for the annual the Cypress Yearbook.
Mixed MEDIA
Mixed media literally implies the combination of different art materials. In this class students collage, implement layering techniques and experiment with multiple two dimensional and three dimensional materials.
