Academics

Cypress High School encourages students to aspire to greater heights through its whole-student approach to teaching: the support of social and emotional growth through compassionate, human interaction while driving toward mastery of the fundamentals of social studies, math, language, art and science. Teachers bring passion and real-world applications to core subject matter in student-centered learning environments. Cypress offers an A-G college preparatory curriculum and aligns with Common Core Standards (CCCS), California State Standards (CSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). A substantial majority of students at Cypress achieve core competencies and go on to attend a four year college or community college.

Core

Cypress High School invites students of all abilities to engage in core classes in order to prepare them for a future in an increasingly complex global environment. Fundamental courses are designed to challenge the students through thoughtful debate and foundational academic coursework. Students benefit from the supportive learning environment fostered by small classroom size and low student to teacher ratio, typically 15:1.

Pathways

There are many academic opportunities for those students who wish to reach beyond foundational coursework. Cypress offers accelerated classes in English, art, sciences, and the social sciences. Many students broaden their studies through dual enrollment at nearby Cabrillo College. Cypress also allows students to pursue their passions through independent studies for high school credit, if approved by the principal.

Graduate

Cypress High School’s graduation requirements mirror the A-G college preparatory courses necessary to meet the college entrance requirements for the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. Each student establishes a high school graduation plan against goals for post-secondary education. Cypress has a dedicated full time counselor that helps each individual student stay on track.
